Built in 1999, Charles A. Cannon Jr. Memorial Hospital provides a comprehensive range of healthcare services and advanced technology. We are a 70-bed primary care hospital located in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. We offer Emergency Care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in addition to our full range of services and specialty care. LightSpeed® Computed Tomography System
The LightSpeed® CT scanner allows physicians to simultaneously capture multiple wafer-thin images of a patient's anatomy within seconds, shaving precious minutes off the exam time. The system provides exceptional high-resolution images that help doctors to more accurately diagnose patients than ever before.

We provide emergency medicine, primary health care, behavioral health services, restorative care, and much more to all of the high country including; Newland, Banner Elk, Linville, and the rest of Avery County, NC. As part of the Avery Health Care System.

Charles A. Cannon Jr. Memorial Hospital was formed in 1995 when two rural hospitals in Avery County, NC, merged under one board of directors and president. We serve permanent and seasonal residents by providing hospital primary care, emergency care, physician specialty services, extended healthcare, restorative care, home care, behavioral health services and sleep studies. Managed by Appalachian Regional Healthcare System, Cannon Memorial Hospital considers preventive medicine and community involvement a significant part of its mission.
We are conveniently located in Linville, the central point of Avery County to accessibly meet your healthcare needs, and, as a member of Appalachian Regional Healthcare System, extended services and treatments are provided with access to another premier institution, Watauga Medical Center in Boone.

Patient Care Center
The main section of the hospital is an acute care area dedicated to the treatment of the severely ill and those requiring intense post-surgical care. The latest medical equipment and a highly-qualified staff help ensure the most brief, yet comfortable, hospital stay possible.

Behavioral Health Outpatient Center
Passages, the behavioral health outpatient program services people who are experiencing symptoms, but who do not necessarily need the intense treatment of an inpatient facility. The program centers around group therapy meetings. Meeting hours are flexible depending on individual need, but initially most people attend five days a week for two hours a day. Treatment may also include individual counseling and/or family therapy, if needed. Other outpatient behavioral health services offered include psychiatric consultation, medication management, case management and discharge planning. Transportation to the program is also available. Confidential assessments, consultations and evaluations for Passages are provided free of charge.

Restorative Care Center
Patients requiring rehabilitation services and skilled nursing care benefit from this 10-bed unit. The care center treats individuals such as vehicle accident victims, elderly patients who have suffered a major fall or stroke victims. While patients tend to remain longer in the Restorative Care Center than on a regular nursing floor, physical therapists work closely with patients to speed recovery. New Life Center
The New Life Center provides a beautiful and special place for expectant parents to bring their new babies into the world. It features beautifully designed, home-like labor/delivery/recovery/postpartum (LDRP) suites with private bathrooms that include whirlpool tubs. Diagnostic Services
Cannon Memorial Hospital offers sophisticated diagnostic services that allow physicians to diagnose illness and injury quickly and begin prompt treatment. Diagnostic services include:

A fully accredited lab also helps support these services.

Emergency Department
Cannon Memorial Hospital emergency medicine physicians offer an advanced care 24 hours a day. With the assistance of specially trained emergency nurses, the Emergency Department treats both major and minor emergencies. The department is fully equipped with trauma and specialized treatment rooms used for a range of conditions from cardiac emergencies to orthopedic and pediatric emergencies.

Air ambulance services also are available through MedCenter Air, Mission/St. Joe and Johnson City Medical Center 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Critical Care Unit
This 4-bed Critical Care Unit provides specialized care for patients with severe medical conditions such as stroke, heart attack and traumatic injuries.

Sloop Community Alternative Program/Avery Home Health Services
Avery Home Health Services provides personal care, tailored to meet the needs of our patients in the comfort of their own homes.

Services include:

* Skin and nail care
* Dressing
* Assistance with exercise/walking
* Changing linens
* Assistance with meal preparation and feeding
* Shopping and errands
* Laundry and light housekeeping
* Companionship
* Transportation

Surgery Center
Within two surgical suites, Cannon Memorial Hospital offers the total spectrum of surgical services, including outpatient and minimally invasive through its Surgery Center. Surgical areas include general, pediatric, cardiovascular, trauma, neurological, orthopaedic, transplant, trauma, urologic, gynecologic and plastic surgery.
